Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The employee in this position performs security services and provides protection to property, grounds, facilities, tenants, employees, and the general public at Fort Indiantown Gap.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Conduct patrols of Fort Indiantown Gap (FIG) buildings and grounds by foot or vehicle. Enforce Post rules and regulations. Report unusual incidents, fire, or other hazards and take action according to policies and procedures.

Control access to FIG at an Access Control Point (ACP) and to specific facilities and restricted areas by screening all employees, visitors, consultants, and contracted personnel to determine the status of individuals, the reason for and location of visit, and whether access should be granted. Denies access to unauthorized personnel or those who do not meet authorized entry criteria.

Wear protective body armor and utilize non-lethal weaponry such as tasers and pepper spray to subdue aggressive offenders who do not respond to nonviolent measures or negotiations.

Conduct physical and visual security checks of high threat areas throughout assigned area of responsibility.

Respond to routine and emergency calls involving public assistance, fire, vehicle accidents, or other types of emergencies. Respond to building alarms. As needed, assist police and other emergency service personnel.

Utilizes the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN), and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) databases to access, research, and maintain records regarding criminal history, warrants, driver licenses and history, vehicle registrations, probation and parole status, and other information in accordance with federal and state laws.

Direct and control traffic. Enforce FIG parking regulations.

Prepare security reports; maintain logs of daily activities, and other forms as required.
Assist police officers of the FIG Police Force. Cooperate with local, state, and federal law enforcement authorities as needed.

Operate patrol vehicles, communications network, computers, alarm monitoring station, close circuit television, and other equipment. Operate Post emergency dispatch communications network center, monitor alarms and perform Post operator functions. Coordinate with county and local emergency service providers.

Assist visitors and give directions. Perform fixed post security duties issuing badges, checking identifications, assisting the public, and answering telephones.

Assist with and participate in training programs to develop and maintain essential job knowledge and skills.

Perform front desk duty at Edward Martin Hall. Greet visitors and issue and record temporary visitor badges. Acquire returned badges from exiting visitors. Monitors and answer the front desk telephone, and forward calls as needed. Respond to general inquiries and provide information to assist visitors. Contact personnel to arrange visitor escort, and escort visitors as needed or required. Post General Officer flags to indicate which General Officers are in the office. Ensure all exterior doors are locked at the end of the day.

Perform work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately report all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area or report same to the supervisor.

Perform other related duties as required.

• Employee must maintain active National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the duration of employment in this job.

• Employee must maintain active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certifications issued by the Pennsylvania State Police for the duration of employment in this job.

• Employee must maintain access to a Common Access Card (CAC) as issued by the federal Department of Defense for the duration of employment in this job.

**Must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.**

Work is assigned on a biweekly work schedule posted two weeks in advance. Detailed instructions are contained in standard operating procedures and policies. The Chief of Police, Installation Security Officer Manager, and Installation Security Officer Supervisor issue special written and verbal instructions on an as needed basis. Work is performed independently within procedures and policies. Work is reviewed through personal inspection, observation, and reports.

Essential Functions
