Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Conducts surveys, inspections and documentation of preservation needs and applies preservation construction skills, knowledge of traditional building materials and techniques for the conservation of the historic buildings managed by PHMC.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

1.Inspect historic site buildings and structures to assess conditions and develop treatment recommendations.
2.Complete survey forms and prepare condition assessment reports.
3.Prioritize work and make project work requests and scheduling recommendations to the Preservation Construction Supervisor.
4.Perform preservation trades work, such as carpentry, painting, roofing and masonry as required to complete assigned projects.
5.Safely operate hand tools and woodworking machinery and instructing others on their safe operation.
6.Provide information on projects and preservation topics through workshops, seminars, articles and other educational programs.
7.Apply the best current procedures and protocols to ensure that all construction work meets agency standards for preservation and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. (36 CFR 67).
8.Document all project work, including preparing scope of work, technical specifications, field sketches, field notes, photographs and reports.
9.Provide preservation trade skills training and mentoring for assigned seasonal apprentices.
10.Provide technical assistance to site maintenance staff.
11.Estimate materials and supplies required to complete projects, prepare materials lists, and procure materials in adherence with all applicable procurement rules.
12.Erect scaffolding, ladders and operate motorized lifts as required to complete project work.
13.Schedule equipment maintenance as required.
14.Observe construction projects in progress. Attend job conferences and submit reports as needed to the respective Project Manager responsible for each project. Coordinate with the Project Manager and the Preservation Construction Supervisor.
15.Travel as required.
16.Performs other duties as required.
17.Incumbent is responsible to be familiar with PHMC general safety rules and safety rules specific to this position; for working in a safe manner and following all PHMC safety rules; immediately report all workplace injuries or incidents to their supervisor; and to immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area or report same to supervisor.

Decision Making:

Survey preservation construction needs at various locations and prepare reports for supervisor’s approval. Perform preservation construction work on historic buildings and resolve field conditions as required to achieve the conservation of the historic structure according to professional standards and specifications. Provide technical training for others as required by the projects assigned. Defer to supervisor on: budgets, annual plans, and planning and coordination between bureuas and other agencies.
