Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position will assist the EES Supervisor and Center Manager at Jennings Environmental Education Center with archiving and collections management and/or historical research and programming development for the Old Stone House (reconstructed early 19th century stage coach tavern/inn), Foltz School (late 19th century restored original one room schoolhouse), Brydon Mine (ruins of mid 20th century abandoned coal mine), and other park historical and cultural resources and research (former landowners, old saw mill ruins, industrial remnants). Duties, dependent on area of study and experience, may include processing collections (artifacts, documents, photographs, digital media) arranging and describing collections, digitizing, preservation and conservation; researching in primary and secondary sources, assisting with program and exhibit development, and visitor services (interfacing with the public)

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Intern will:
Use current process and other best practices as needed to process, arrange, and describe collections of historical artifacts, documents, photographs and digitized records

Be proficient in use of Microsoft products, and should be familiar with at least one collections management program, in order to process collections

Scan/photograph and organize scanned/photographed documents and images

Perform basic conservation tasks such as boxing, cleaning, and handling materials

Transcribe historical documents

Conduct research as directed using both online and in-person archives of primary and secondary sources, including but not limited to land records, deeds, tax records, census records, newspapers, wills, and county histories and biographies, family photos, and more

Conduct oral history interviews

Assist in planning, developing, and facilitating a program for the general public

Assist in planning and developing exhibits

Greet and speak with visitors about historical topics

Interact with the general public about Jennings in general
