Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Assist park staff in various projects while gaining experience in Park Operations, Resource Management, Customer Service, Administration and Environmental Education.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Intern will work at Shawnee State Park.

1. Intern will be oriented by supervisor to park procedures, safety protocols, position expectations, as well as the Bureau of State Park’s mission statement.

2. Intern will assist in the planning, preparation, and completion of specialized park improvement projects that involve other staff, volunteers, etc. Intern will be assigned and responsible for specific projects with projected goals and deadlines, which will require a large degree of independent work and initiative to plan, research, collect data for, collaborate, coordinate, execute, and report the completion of the project.

3. Intern will collect, and input data related to GIS mapping and invasive species identification.

ADDITIONAL PARK EXPERIENCES TO GAIN:

-Assists in filing, data entry, drafting documents, answering phones, using office equipment, as well as greeting and assisting visitors/callers. Assists with campground office operations to better understand the process to aid in answering visitor inquiries and checking in campers.

-Gain exposure and experience the process used in maintaining park facilities. May assist in grounds keeping, servicing trails, and removing invasive plant species. Gain experience using the various tools and equipment used in maintaining a recreational facility.

-Assists the Environmental Education Specialist in preparing for, facilitating, and presenting educational/interpretive and recreational programs for the public.

-Keeps weekly logs of activity and accomplishments for supervisor’s weekly review. Creates a work plan for each assigned project and projected goals and completion dates with supervisor. Also completes all forms and reporting as required by university within established timelines. Notifies supervisor of established/upcoming university deadlines.

-Presents a professional image by professional language and conduct, personal appearance, vehicle cleanliness, a thorough knowledge of the park and its operations, a confident and helpful demeanor, verbal and telephone skills, and practiced public relation skills.

-Works directly with volunteers in organizing and/or supporting their efforts.

-Will participate in other opportunities for learning experiences that may arise such as trainings, inspections, and special events.
