Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. An employee in this job performs semi-skilled work alone or assists a skilled trade worker. Work involves the use of a variety of construction, grounds keeping and maintenance equipment and tools, which frequently requires the application of skills acquired on the job. Minor repairs and routine grounds keeping and custodial duties are performed with considerable independence and reviewed upon completion. More advanced construction or repair work is performed under the direction of a skilled trade worker or supervisor. Planned working time percentages are approximate and can change on a daily basis due to operational needs. 40% Assists in taking care of buildings and grounds. 15% Makes repairs to buildings and buildings facilities; uses tools of the carpentry, electrical, plumbing and other building trades in the performance of maintenance work. 10% Acts as helper to skilled tradesmen and assists them in performance of their duties. 10% Operates trucks in support of daily institutional transportation requirements. Operates snow plow for snow removal and/or a salt spreader to eliminate slippery conditions as needed. 10% May be assigned to assist at the water and sewage plant as directed. Operates stretcher and stretcher transport vehicle on resident trips. 7% Operates mini-vans and wheelchair equipped vans on resident trips. 2% Operates and services a stationary compressor motor; operates the tools and attachments powered from a stationary compressor motor. 2% Builds simple forms for cement work using carpenter tools; mixes and places cement, finishes cement using mason tools; lays stone and block walls. Prepares, paints or stains interior/exterior surfaces. Scrapes and removes old finish and rolls or uses brushes to apply paint or stain. 2% Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on powered equipment including minor repairs on automotive vehicles. Inspects all power-driven vehicles that travel the public highways for compliance with state regulations. 2% Drives a truck to haul men and materials to and from jobs; assists in the performance of the job. |
