Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organizations objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, visitors, and property within the hospital grounds, as well as providing switchboard, telecommunications, and administrative support. The Security and Communications Officer maintain order, patrols facilities, responds to emergencies, investigates incidents, and enforces policies, while also managing communication systems, visitor access, and clerical functions essential to hospital operation. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Lobby duties, assisting nursing staff with searching patients. Assisting consumers with IDs for ground privileges. Patrols hospital grounds, tunnels, buildings, basements, and parking areas to identify and respond to hazards, unauthorized persons, and unusual incidents. Maintains order among patients, staff, and visitors by observation, reporting, and intervention as necessary. Responds to alarms, disturbances, medical crises, fires, hazardous conditions, and psychiatric emergencies. Transports or escorts patients, staff, visitors, funds, and documents as assigned. Conducts preliminary investigations of incidents including theft, trespassing, missing patients, and policy violations. Provides emergency physical intervention and restraint of patients when required. Performs fire safety inspections, hazard checks, and custodial/maintenance duties as assigned. Operates and maintains hospital switchboard, NEC console, paging system, voicemail, and two-way radios. Receives and directs incoming calls; places outgoing calls for patients and staff; maintains toll call records. Monitors and responds to emergency communication systems including fire alarms and burglar alarms. Issues and records visitor passes, keys, and vehicle registrations; maintains accurate logs. Provides clerical support to hospital departments by screening calls, recording information, and directing inquiries. Maintains updated manuals, logs, and policy-related documents. Assists with training additional staff for back-up coverage of switchboard and communication center. Documents daily activities, incident reports, and communication center operations. Performs other duties and assignments as directed to support safety, security, and facility operations. |

Decisions involve responding to threats such as fires, hazardous conditions, medical or psychiatric emergencies, and security risks. Issues requiring policy interpretation or administrative approval are referred to the supervisor. |
