Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively.

The employee works a total of 15 hours/weekly within 2 working days. The Podiatrist provides comprehensive Podiatric Treatment and services to patients at Torrance State Hospital. Provides care for all Torrance State Hospital patients depending on patients' needs and at the discretion of the Chief of Medical Services.

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Podiatry history, examination, diagnosis (utilizing x-ray, lab, consultations, etc.) and the application of therapeutics as needed to improve or correct the same.

Initial podiatry examination for all new admissions, plus a follow-up treatment management of chronic podiatry pathology on a regular treatment basis, including monthly checks on all diabetic patients.

Provides corrective treatment for minor foot ailments, such as removing corns, bunions by medical, mechanical, or surgical means not involving the use of other than local anesthetics or drugs.

Provides instruction to personnel/staff on geriatric, diabetic, and peripheral vascular disease in regard to podiatry foot care.

Prescribes prosthetic foot appliances, orthotics, and proper footwear when necessary to build up to aid in proper gait. Prescribes pain and infection reducing medication for foot disorders. Orders proper testing (i.e. ultrasounds, bone density).

Performs other related duties as assigned.

The work is performed independently. Provides consultations as necessary. Supervision is provided by the Chief of Medical Services.

1.	Effectively communicates, diagnoses, analyzes, and interprets medical plan
