Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position provides support evaluating and approving licensure applications for the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs’ (BPOA) Boards to ensure BPOA licensure operations are conducted in accordance with the laws, regulations, Board policies and procedures.
Responsible for evaluating advanced educational/experience requirements (foreign education, qualifying coursework, post-graduate/clinical experience), determining eligibility and processing applications for initial and reactivation licensure, and assisting in continuing education audits for licensing Boards.


Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Conducts evaluations of applications by using specific evaluation guidelines for the various types of certifications for determining eligibility and approval for initial and reactivation licensure and certification of professionals, educational institutions and businesses.

Evaluates and researches professional applicants’ education, experience or certificate qualifications for initial and reactivation licensure.

Reviews college transcripts and/or notarized letters (depending on license type) to ensure applicant has met the required number of semester credits, degree requirements, and/or hours for licensure.

Reviews and evaluates college courses to determine acceptability according to established standards. Verifies college transcripts/credits based on the course title and content of the course. Reviews a detailed description of the course to determine relevancy to the individual’s profession.

Evaluates and makes determination when candidates for licensure are eligible for reduced experience due to number of semester credits on transcripts and/or degree.

Evaluates experience documents for individuals applying for initial certification. This includes making the determination if an individual has applied for certification in the required requisite period, reviewing job descriptions to determine eligibility of experience, reviewing and calculating the required time period and hours of experience and ensure that the applicant’s hours are verified according to the law/regulations.

Responds to inbound phone calls and makes outbound phone calls.

Corresponds with the Board administrator regarding applications requiring Board approval.

Researches complex application documentation and prepares appropriate responses to applicant.

Conducts the biennial CE audit, which includes review of CE documents to verify that courses are following Board laws/regulations, verifying providers approval and/or evaluating college courses to ensure acceptable established standards are met.

Evaluates continuing education (CE) courses and CE providers to determine compliance with the CE requirements for initial certification, reactivation, reciprocity applications and/or CE audit.

Reviews applications to determine any unlicensed or improper activity of individuals, businesses, and CE providers and refer applications to the Professional Compliance Office (PCO). This includes a synopsis of the problems encountered through the review of the application.

Participates in Board audits conducted by state and/or federal agencies. This includes reviewing procedures for approval and disapproval of applications, pulling requested files from database and explaining procedures for forwarding applications to PCO.

Prepares response to inquiries regarding the application process by email, typed correspondence, fax, or helpdesk ticket.

Responds to requests for information relating to the established requirements for certification/licensing.

Researches and processes requests for certification of licensure, certification of examination scores, and reactivation of license.

Reviews and processes applications for temporary permits submitted by individuals and/or businesses who have met Board requirements for licensure.

Maintains official certification records and ensures complete and accurate licensure data is entered into system.

Develops, prepares and distributes detailed discrepancy letters as well as routine correspondence to applicants and licensees not meeting the licensure/renewal requirements as outlined by criteria in laws, regulations and policies.

Processes and evaluates continuing education program sponsor applications. Refers applications that require Board review to Board administrator or individual Board members, as appropriate.

Evaluates and processes continuing education audit responses to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations.

Processes and approves audits that comply with the rules and regulations.

Adheres to Bureau Quality Assurance standards.

Performs other related duties as required.

Independently evaluates the acceptability of the applicant's credentials for initial licensure/certification and determines eligibility for initial and reactivation licensure to ensure compliance with the laws, regulations and Board's policies.

Escalates licensing issue to supervisor and/or Board administrator for resolution.
