Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. As an intern for the Bureau of Workforce Partnership & Operations, intern will get an inside look into the landmark legislation, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act of 2014, that is designed to strengthen and improve our nation’s public workforce system and help get Americans into high-quality careers while helping employers hire and retain a skilled workforce. Will experience social services and case management firsthand through a variety of duties within the PA CareerLink Office. Will help customers by assisting in an intake process to provide referrals to the appropriate resource, work with the Career Resource Center, and provide workshop support. Learn how to provide and gain experience with customer-centered services designed to enhance workforce development activities and service strategies for jobseekers and employers. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Learn and apply knowledge of workforce development programs, services, policies, regulations, legislation, and procedures. Maintain and continually improve knowledge of Microsoft applications for work products and services. Assist CareerLink® staff to conduct vocational and career assessments of jobseekers. Identify suitability for and/or barriers to employment/training as well as appropriate tools and resources for jobseekers to achieve employment goals. Support CareerLink® staff to provide intake services to jobseekers and employers. Assist CareerLink® staff with workshops, presentations, and orientations to services, career counseling and coaching on résumé-writing, interviewing, job search, networking, and other topics. Coordinate and provide services with CareerLink® staff using a case management approach, assisting the jobseeker to develop employment goals; create and modify an Individual Employment Plan (IEP); coordinate support and related services with other providers; track progress toward goals; and provide follow-up activities. Promote PA CareerLink® services to jobseekers, employers, the public, and service providers by coordinating marketing activities with the media, community organizations, schools, and other entities. Assist CareerLink® staff to provide services to employers, including making contacts; analyzing workforce needs; analyzing occupations to determine the skill sets needed by jobseekers; coordinating recruitment services; referring qualified jobseekers; contacting businesses to develop jobs when no suitable postings exist; and proposing hiring strategies to address workforce issues. Under CareerLink® staff direction and supervision, search for, verify, and approve or reject new employer information in compliance with requirements; assist businesses with posting vacancies in PA CareerLink® Online. Search for, verify, and approve or reject employers’ job postings in compliance with requirements. Learn and maintain professional relationships with staff in local and neighboring PA CareerLink® and Local Workforce Development Board offices and with community-based organizations, agencies, training providers, and the general public. Update calendars in Outlook on a daily basis. Communicate with supervisor on activities. Listen and speak to customers, colleagues, and partners in a professional manner. Learn how to document all services provided to businesses and jobseekers for required performance measures and federal reporting requirements in the Commonwealth Workforce Development System (CWDS), other online databases, and other electronic applications. Use and comply with appropriate federal, state, and BWPO policies and procedures. Perform related work and duties as required. |

Example: Experience using Java; Professional Engineer License Experience: Currently enrolled in college full-time (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits, or 9 or more graduate credits). Enrolled full-time for the upcoming fall semester by the start of the internship in an applicable major. Be in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
