Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position will observe and assist with technical work in the filed of environmental interpretation and park resource managment. The intern will help an EIT, EESS and CM coordinate and implement environmental interpretive programs, outdoor recreation programs, information services, public relations, resource mangement projects and maintenance projects in the park.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Using developed themes and programs, will help conduct special activities for park visitors through a series of environmental and interpretive programs focusing on the natural history, historic and cultural events and environmental managment issues at Jennings Environmental Education Center.

Work with center manager to learn how to manage the Center's natural resources, which includes the preparation, maintenance and adherence to the Center's resource management plan.

Assist in the implementation of research projects designed to enhance resource mangement strategies related to abandoned mine drainage, prairie flora,invasive species, massasauga rattlesnake, and small mammals.

Help maintain and coordinate the use of environmental learning field equipment, oversees use of equipment, maintains equipment, and makes recommendations for repair, servicing, replacement and purchace of new equipment to the environmental education specialist supervisor.

Assists in the development of posters, and other promotional materials.

Engage the visiting public through contacts in both the office and field. Provide outstanding customer service to ensure a memorable visit. Make contacts with public to ensure that State Parks rules and regulations are upheld.

Work with Center staff to prepare letters, reports and correspondence as required. Assists with preparing draft press releases to inform the public and others of park activities, programs, schedules and special events.

Assist with park resource management projects including invasive species removal, water testing, tree planting etc.

Assist with park maintenance projects including trail rehabilitation, bridge repair, staining etc.

Assist with special events and work with volunteers.

Participate in park inspections.

Operate a state vehicle from work location to various parks.

May be required to perform other special project work as necessary.

Assignments are made either orally or in writing with considerable freedom of judgement following prescribed policies and prodedures. Work is reviewed by the center manager upon completion or during progress for adherance to polices and precedures and for completeness. This position will work closely with the center manager and environmental education specialist supervisor in the course of their work duties.
