Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is a temporary internship position to work with Pymatuning State Park's education staff. This intern will assist in scheduling, coordinating and planning, and presenting a variety of education programs. Most programming will take place at either Pymatuning State Park or MK Goddard State Park, with some travel to other nearby locations. Programs may be classroom or outdoor recreation based, large events, and teacher workshops. Programming may include strenuous activity such as kayaking, fishing, biking, hiking, backpacking, etc. Intern should be comfortable reading, learning and presenting lesson plans to various audience types. The position will include office work such as creating program flyers and corresponding with program participants. Intern will be responsible for choosing and working on an independent project.

This position will be scheduled to work weekends and holidays, and shifts may vary based on park operational need. Normal shifts will be a work week of 5 days with 2 days off.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Intern will be oriented by supervisor to park procedures, safety protocols, position expectations, as well as the Bureau of State Park's mission statement.

Intern will gain exposure and experience the process used in maintaining park facilities. May assist in grounds keeping, servicing trails, and removing invasive plant species. May experience using various tools and equipment used in maintaining a recreational facility.

Intern must present a professional image by professional language and conduct, personal appearance, vehicle cleanliness, a thorough knowledge of the park and its operations, a confident and helpful demeanor, verbal and telephone skills, and practiced public relation skills.

Works directly with volunteers and other organizations as needed.

Will participate in other opportunities for learning experiences that may arise such as trainings, inspections, and special events.

Decision Making:

The intern will be responsible for independent work carrying out assigned duties in a designated time frame. The position requires someone who can multitask and has good organizational skills. This person will be working directly with the public and representing the park and its organization. Interns are responsible for becoming knowledgeable in the parks, facilities, and education programming, and providing basic information. Anything they cannot answer should be directed to the education staff or other staff as available.
