Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is a professional internship position to implement an assigned projects of: 1) Conducting boat inspections at boat launch areas within Prince Gallitzin State Park to create awareness of aquatic invasive species. 2) Using GPS to collect park attributes including road data, buildings, utilities, etc. Additional State Park experienced will be gained by assisting staff in different responsibility areas such as Crooked Run Campground Office, Environmental Education assistance, and Maintenance tasks by working with a range of position classifications while at Prince Gallitzin State Park. The selected intern will be responsible for: utilizing a GPS unit to collect mentioned attributes; being familiar with aquatic invasive species, furthering knowledge of successful boat inspection programs in Pennsylvania and other states. Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 1. Intern will be oriented by supervisor to park procedures, safety protocols, position expectations, as well as the Bureau of State Park’s mission statement. 2. In addition to the boater inspection focus project, intern will assist in the planning, preparation, and completion of specialized park improvement projects that involve other staff, volunteers, etc. Intern will be assigned and responsible for specific projects with projected goals and deadlines, which will require a large degree of independent work and initiative to plan, research, collect data for, collaborate, coordinate, execute, and report the completion of the project. 3. Intern will collect GPS data points on trail intersections and download the data to ArcView GIS. ADDITIONAL PARK EXPERIENCES TO GAIN: -Assists in filing, data entry, drafting documents, answering phones, using office equipment, as well as greeting and assisting visitors/callers.
