The Press Secretary serves as the Assistant Communications Director for the Pennsylvania Game Commission and is responsible for managing media relations, public information, and external communications to advance the agency’s mission of managing and protecting wildlife and their habitats for current and future generations. This position supports the Communications Director in developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies, ensuring consistent and transparent messaging to the public, media, and stakeholders. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. •Serve as the primary point of contact for news media, responding to inquiries, coordinating interviews, and preparing official statements and news releases. •Draft, edit, and distribute press materials, including media advisories, press releases, and op-eds, ensuring accuracy and alignment with agency priorities. •Advise agency leadership and subject matter experts on media engagement, messaging strategies, and communication best practices. •Support the Communications Director in managing daily operations of the Communications Office, including staff coordination, project prioritization, and editorial oversight. •Coordinate and conduct press events, briefings, and public announcements in collaboration with program bureaus and executive leadership. •Monitor news coverage, public sentiment, and emerging issues affecting the agency, and provide regular briefings and analysis to leadership. •Develop and maintain positive working relationships with journalists, news outlets, and communications counterparts across government and partner organizations. •Assist in the development and execution of proactive media campaigns to promote agency programs, initiatives, and conservation achievements. •Contribute to the agency’s digital and social media strategies by ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of information. •Serve as spokesperson when designated by the Communications Director or Executive Director. •Performs other related duties as assigned |

The Assistant Communications Director exercises considerable independent judgment in day-to-day operations and decision-making related to assigned projects, while coordinating closely with the Communications Director to ensure alignment with agency priorities and messaging standards. The Assistant Communications Director has delegated authority to make operational and tactical communications decisions and may serve as acting Communications Director in the Director’s absence. Decisions with broad organizational or policy implications are referred to the Communications Director for review and approval. |
