Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Responsible for assisting inspection of transportation construction projects and materials used on projects for conformance to contract plans and specifications.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Assist in the inspection of construction operations on road, bridge and other transportation improvement projects as assigned to ensure work is done in accordance with the plans, specifications, and contract's special provisions.

Record personal and contractor work in Field Inspector’s Diaries or PSA, Item Quantity Books, and sketch/Computation Book.

Check work zone traffic control signs and devices to ensure that they are placed and maintained in accordance with the Work Zone Traffic Control Plan and Publication 213.

Complete general project documentation as required.

This position also includes other duties listed below:

Assist with analyzing the contract plans, specifications, and contract special provisions and explain the contract requirements to contractor personnel and others making inquiry.

Inform Department supervisory or management personnel of issues with contractor personnel and others of decisions taken to resolve an issue or request assistance from Department supervisory or management personnel to resolve an issue.

Review construction project safety practices and advise contractor supervisory/management personnel of any corrective actions needed.

Perform mathematical calculations to compute quantities of work completed and materials placed.

Assist or complete the periodic progress payments as directed.

Assist with checking stakeouts, elevations, grades, slopes, excavation, placement, and compaction of materials.

Assist inspection personnel with performing and/or witness testing or materials to be incorporated into projects.

Collect Materials Delivery Forms and Certifications for materials to be incorporated into projects.

Participate in training to develop work skills related to construction and material inspection and other work duties within the District.

Perform work in our District Units on a temporary basis as assigned.

Independently travel to various work sites throughout the district as required.

Perform other duties related to specific work assignments as required.

Safety:

2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws.
3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss.
4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident.
5. Evaluate the contractor's operations:
-Immediately stop any unsafe actions.
-Engage in an ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor's leadership.

Succession Planning:
Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.
Department Green Plan Policy:
Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principles. Failure to comply with the Department’s Green Plan Policy shall be documented in the employee’s performance review.

Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0-hour day.

Essential Functions
: Provide a list of essential functions for this position. Example: Transports boxes weighing up to 60 pounds.
 
 1. Work involves traversing various terrain, the ascent/descent of steep slopes, working in swampy areas and in all types of weather conditions.
 2. Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel. Must also at times work in heavy traffic conditions being alert for all types of emergencies.
 3. Lifting and/or moving objects up to 50 pounds.
 4. Work year round must be performed under a range of weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow or ice.
 5. Must be able to wear all types of personal protective equipment including hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and leather work shoes
 6. Must be able to independently travel to various sites within District 3-0 and to any meeting and/or work sites outside of District 3-0. Overnight trav
