Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The employee in this position provides treatment to residents at the Southeastern Veterans Center. This includes, but is not limited to, medical diagnosis or prescription of medical therapeutics or corrective measures in collaboration with and under the direction of a licensed physician.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

15% Provide treatment to all residents of the facility.

15% Develop individualized health profiles by taking health and developmental histories; assess and perform findings of histories and physical examinations of residents; analyze and evaluate clinical laboratory data and diagnostic tests; set forth preliminary medical diagnoses in accordance with established medical protocols.

10% Order diagnostic studies; assess data discriminating between normal and abnormal and identify abnormalities for further study.

10% Develop and evaluate primary medical treatment plans for residents. Initiate adjustments and corrections in collaboration with the supervising physician.

10% Initiate and update Progress Notes, Discharge Summaries, and other related reports, in the electronic medical record (EMR) as required.

8% Order Medications that are appropriate for residents, taking into considerations staying within the formulary.

5% Evaluate resident capability to perform self-care activities. Counsel residents and family as to the nature and course of illness, disability, medication regimen, tests, and treatment procedures.

5% Make referrals to appropriate health care providers for more specialized care and collaborate with other health care disciplines to insure continuity of care.

5% Provide on call general medical practitioner coverage for residents during evening/weekend and holiday hours, or on an emergency basis according to the Commandant’s direction or as scheduled for coverage across the veterans homes.

5% Actively participate in the facility QAPI efforts by participating on the QI Committee, championing QAPI efforts, identifying opportunities for improvement; and assisting in the prioritization of quality efforts.

3% Participate in surveys and inspections.

3% Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to supervisor.

2% Provide care or assistance to residents or employees in emergency situations that occur on the premises.

2% Adhere to the Governor’s Code of Conduct and all federal, state and facility regulations, rules and policies.

2% Perform related duties as required.

Follow universal precautions. Use required personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, gowns, goggles, face shield, etc.

**Maintain current certification as a Registered Nurse Practitioner by the PA State Board of Nursing.**

**Obtain and maintain valid CRNP Prescriptive Authority Approval to prescribe and dispense drugs as issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.**
