Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Directs the work of labor foremen, equipment operators, diesel mechanic, maintenance repairman and semi-skilled laborers. Employee occasionally performs highly skilled phases of work personally. Operates dozers, front end loaders, backhoes, excavators, track loaders, hydro-seeders, tractor-trailer combinations, dump trucks with and without tag-a-long trailers, pickup trucks and other equipment to construct small, abandoned mine reclamation projects. Ensures equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are kept in an organized and neat manner at the River Street Facility. Performs routine maintenance and effects minor repairs on equipment. Secures materials needed on construction projects and prepares reports detailing the work performed and associated costs. Supervises the operation of light and heavy equipment used on construction, reconstruction, maintenance, and other projects. Instructs and assigns work to staff and supervises workers in a variety of tasks affiliated with work of the Wilkes-Barre District Office. Schedules work of staff to be efficient and in order of priority. Provides assistance to other state agencies involving work which requires the supply and operation of heavy equipment. Reviews and approves employee time sheets, leave requests and travel expense reports. Employee is also responsible for preparing position descriptions, performance standards, and employee evaluation reports. Is knowledgeable in the usage of tools, current safety procedures and equipment used by the In-House Construction Crew. Possesses abilities as noted in the Essential Functions Statement. Promotes the Department's mission. Inputs appropriate data in a prescribed format to meet data quality standards set forth by guidance, training, and policy across all of DEP’s electronic data systems; to include ensuring accuracy and completeness of entries, and where available, the use of system specific tools to ensure duplicative entries and data quality issues are minimized.
