Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is general duty police work at the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs’ Fort Indiantown Gap installation. An employee in this job provides police services and protection to employees, the public, property, facilities, and grounds. An employee in this job is a sworn police officer and exercises the power of arrest.

Description of Duties:

9% Patrols federal and state-owned buildings and grounds at Fort Indiantown Gap by foot and by vehicle.

3% Investigates vehicle accidents involving persons or property; reports probable cause of accident; pursues proper course of action.

9% Enforces federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations through warning, citation, or arrest.

9% Conducts physical and visual security checks of high threat areas, perimeters, and equipment storage locations as required or assigned.

9% Investigates criminal activity, suspected activity, or reported crimes, and reports findings. Provides follow-up, investigates and coordinates more complex cases, and makes arrests as warranted.

9% Responds to calls for assistance from central dispatch, police departments in neighboring jurisdictions, and the public.

5% Determines the nature of reported emergencies and notifies fire and medical personnel or requests assistance from other jurisdictions as necessary.

5% Prepares police/security reports; maintains logs of daily activities, and other forms as required. Prepares reports of probable cause to obtain a search or arrest warrant.

5% Investigates and reports unusual incidents, fire, or other hazards and takes action in accordance with policies and procedures.

1% Investigates reports of missing persons and requests assistance from other police jurisdictions as necessary.

5% Investigates building and facility alarms that have been activated.

3% Directs traffic at public events and at vehicle accident sites. Lifts 30 lb traffic control devices as needed.

5% Operates patrol vehicles, communications network equipment, and other equipment. Operates the Post emergency dispatch communications network center, alarm monitoring equipment, and Post operator functions. Coordinate with county and local emergency service providers.

5% Testifies in court and legal proceedings to present evidence or act as a witness.

2% Administers appropriate first-aid treatment to persons requiring immediate medical attention in situations where other emergency personnel are not present.

2% Lead security personnel on an assigned shift or patrol.

2% Develop, instruct, or participate in training programs to develop and maintain essential job knowledge and skills to include annual Municipal Police Updates.

1% Maintains equipment in proper working order (includes fueling and washing vehicles, cleaning weapons, cleaning work area, etc…)

1% Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to supervisor.

Performs or acts an alternate for any of the following:

2% Automated Technology Officer – certified as system administrator on NCIC/Clean, JNET, CRASH, CNET; acts as liaisons between police force and OIT; makes recommendations for software, computers and other technological needs; oversees automated data records systems for the FTIG Police Force; maintains system integrity and security; ensures complies with GO 1.9 MANAGEMENT OF POLICE INFORMATION-INCIDENT REPORTING SYSTEM and other applicable policies; reports deficiencies and recommendations to the Police Chief in writing monthly.

2% Evidence/Property Technician/Mobile Vehicle Recording (MVR) Custodial Officer /Assistant Automated Technology Officer – maintains MVR equipment and recordings in accordance with GO 3.22 MOBILE VEHICLE/AUDIO RECORDING EQUIPMENT; acts as assistant to the Automated Technology Officer; assists with maintaining system integrity and security; act as system administrator on NCIC/CLEAN, JNET, CRASH, and PALEMIS in the absence of the Automated Technology Officer; maintains property and evidence storage areas in accordance to GO 3.13 EVIDENCE FOUND PROPERTY COLLECTION AND RELEASE and other applicable laws/policies; keeps detailed logs of evidence access; ensures evidence sent to PSP laboratories are properly packaged and controlled; reports deficiencies and recommendations to the Police Chief in writing monthly.

1% Intelligence-Juvenile -Victim/Witness Administrator – ensures compliance with GO 3.10 JUVENILES IN POLICE CUSTODY, GO 3.21 INTELLIGENCE FUNCTIONS, GO 3.15 CRIME VICTIM AND WITNESS ASSISTANCE and other applicable; maintains and secures storage of Juvenile and Intelligence records; coordinates with county victim witness assistance programs; reports deficiencies and recommendations to the Police Chief in writing monthly.

1% Booking/Warrant Officer – maintains finger print equipment, cameras and other equipment maintained in the booking room and arms room; ensures fingerprints submissions to PSP and FBI repository meet acceptable criteria; oversees warrant files and ensures due diligence is completed; reports deficiencies and recommendations to the Police Chief in writing monthly.

1% Abandoned Vehicle Officer - ensures compliance with GENERAL ORDER NO. 6.12: TOWING OF VEHICLES and other applicable policies; maintains a list of vehicles identified as abandoned on the installation and their status, central point for processing all abandoned vehicles; reports deficiencies and recommendations to the Police Chief in writing monthly.

3% Performs related work as required.

**Must pass a favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.

Work is performed independently within operating policies and involves situations that may be dangerous or stressful in nature. Work is assigned on a biweekly work schedule posted two weeks in advance. Detailed instructions are contained in Standard Operating Procedures. The Police Chief issues special written and verbal instructions on an as needed basis. Determines course of action in emergency situations.
