Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Work with Commission staff to assist legislative members and staff with inquiries and constituent complaints. Assist the Legislative Liaison 3 with legislative work with the General Assembly and Governor’s Office on legislation affecting the PGC. Advises the agency’s executive director, deputy executive directors, bureau, and regional staff on legislative or administrative issues having a direct or indirect impact on the commission’s operations or programs on a regular basis. Identify Game Commission projects and programs that provide opportunities for the Commission to conduct outreach events with members of the General Assembly. Serves as the liaison with the Game Commission Executive Office to regional employees and members of the General Assembly on scheduling, organizing, and holding outreach events to promote such programs and initiatives. Assist the Legislative Liaison 3 in developing and disseminating the Commission’s position on legislative issues to Information and Education Supervisors. Review proposed legislation affecting agency policies, procedures or operations, and develop and initiate appropriate position and strategic responses in the best interest of the commission. Collect and organize material relating to legislation affecting the PGC. Conducts research and advises alternatives for consideration by the Executive Director in conjunction with agency staff, legislative staff and public interests as needed to achieve the most desirable compromise in line with agency guidelines. Attend local meetings and report regularly or as requested about legislation and legislative issues. Facilitate or act as a resource for local discussions of legislation and contemplated legislation. Identify legislation issues of particular concern and convey those to the Legislative Liaison 3. Responsible to carry out coordinated strategies for advancing commission-sponsored legislative initiatives on a timely basis in each General Assembly session. Maintain a visible, accessible, and credible professional working relationship as a direct liaison between the commission and individual members of the legislature, capitol and district staff, all segments of the governor’s office, other agencies or departments and all public interest groups. Dispense factual data directly in response to requests, complaints, and inquiries. Monitor legislative updates and report to the Commission Legislative Liaison 3. Communicate opportunities and, and at times, the urgent need for participation in legislative activities. Prepare periodic legislative reports and internal communications, position analysis on legislative bills and amendments, and other materials for agency staff, news media, sportsmen’s groups and the public. Advise agency personnel on public relations matters, training and related duties as required. Performs related duties as required. |
