Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Performs a variety of tasks in the custodial care of institutional buildings and surrounding grounds in order to provide a clean, sanitary and attractive environment. Work involves the use of custodial supplies, cleaning materials, operation and care of equipment and machines according to established procedures and safe practices outlined in the Environmental Services Department Procedure Manual.

This employee will be assigned to work in areas as directed by manager or supervisor.
Planned working time percentages are approximate and can change on a daily basis due to operational needs. For this position – the percentage of time will vary based on which shift the employee is working.

• Mops, dusts, scrubs, strips, waxes and buffs floors: washes, dusts, and polishes furniture; wash walls, baseboards and radiators, vacuum and shampoo carpet & walk off mats; clean lavatories, replenish supplies; empties and cleans trash receptacles, removes trash and soiled linen from designated area; dispose of trash in dumpsters by separating materials to be recycled.
• Frequently moves and lifts furniture and equipment.
• Works in clean linen room. Prepares and delivers linen carts, personal clothing in tubs and z-racks, tablecloths, linen napkins and clothing protectors to assigned areas according to schedule.
Maintain linen room to provide a clean and orderly environment. Disinfect all linen carts, racks and tubs as scheduled.
• Operates manual and mechanical equipment by following operating instructions, using appropriate equipment as described in the Environmental Services Department's Procedure Manual and using proper safety techniques to insure maximum efficiency and safety in cleaning.
• Clean dining room: tables, chairs, floors, window sills, walls, doors, shelving, and etc.
• Clean kitchen: floor (3B only), resident wedges, nursing nourishment cart and replenish supplies

• Clean bath trolleys, electronic bed scale, mattresses, assistive devises, Hoyer, hydraulic and manual lifts, Geri chairs, wheelchairs, walkers, beds, nightstands, bedside commodes, beasy transfer system, transfer roller, roho cushions, floor and wall protection mats.
• Launder window curtains, bed curtains, assistive/adaptive devices, teds and slings.
• Develops additional skills by actively participation in training programs, by requesting training and by assisting with the job training of new employees to insure maximum efficiency and safety during their job performance.

• Clean water fountain, ice machines, fans and refrigerators
• Wash and clean mirrors, glass surfaces, windows, mini blinds, and window shades.
• Replace light bulbs and make simple repairs to equipment and buildings or reports needed repairs to supervisor.
• Delivers supplies and runs errands as assigned.
• Sweep and hose walks and keeps immediate outside premises and building entrances in an orderly condition. Shovel and apply ice melt to building entrances (during inclement weather).
• Requests additional supplies and/or equipment through supervisor or Environmental Services Office through verbal or written communication to ensure supplies are available when needed.
• Performs other related work as required.

Essential Functions

 1. Perform repetitive motions; reach, bend, lift, stoop, kneel, walk, climb stairs and stand on hard surfaces
 2. Regular use of solvents, chemicals, and protective equipment
 3. Vacuum, shampoo, and spot clean carpet and/or walk off mats
 4. Mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax and buff floors using manual and mechanical equipment
 5. Use and maintain manual and power janitorial equipment
 6. Wash, disinfect, dust and polish surfaces
 7. Move furniture and equipment
 8. Empty waste and recycling receptacles lifting 35-50 lbs.
