Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. To provide proper podiatric medical care to residents of the South Mountain Restoration Center. The position is for 15 hours a week, split over 2 to 3 days per week. The position is structured to be part-time employment. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Planned working time percentages are approximate and can change on a daily basis due to operational needs. 30% Examines, diagnoses, and treats foot ailments and deformities such as corns, calluses, bunions, ingrown and deformed toenails, flat feet, blisters, arch defects, tendonitis, heel spurs, fractures, athlete's foot, ulcer debridement and other conditions of the foot through medication, surgery, cutting, and/or nail removal, and/or mechanical braces or supports to enhance and/or correct abnormal foot structure. Keep current with and practice according to Federal and State regulations, and facility policies and procedures. Confers with facility medical and professional staff in the treatment of systemic disorders such as diabetes, arthritis, neurological and peripheral vascular disease. Confers with internal/ external staff regarding patients referred for major surgery and treatment of the foot, such as hammertoe correction or bunion removal. Recommends to medical staff various diagnostic procedures such as xray, culture and sensitivities, MRI, CT-scan and nuclear isotope scans of the foot and ankle as indicated. Recommends to medical staff medications such as antibiotics, steroidal and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, analgesics for treating problems of the foot and ankle. Recommends to medical staff physical modalities such as ultrasound and hydrotherapy treatments through the physical therapy service. Prescribes corrective footwear based upon measurements/ impressions for relief and prevention of conditions causing foot deformities and ailments. Makes and/or orders shoe inserts, lifts and heels as indicated. Keep accurate records of examinations and procedures performed in the medical record system. 10% Conducts training with patients and staff regarding foot care and treatment on an individual and group basis. Operates and maintains sterile surgical instruments and devices used in podiatry. Maintains skills and competence through continuing education as mandated by professional societies and licensing board. Performs other related work as required. |
