Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Serves as a public service, safety, and law enforcement officer for the Susquehanna Riverlands State Park complex, to ensure the safety of park visitors, park environment and park facilities, and to provide public contact. This position will have a temporary reporting location at Samuel S. Lewis State Park in Windsor Twp., York County. The permanent reporting location will be Susquehanna Riverlands State Park in Hellam Twp., York County. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Work involves patrolling the park grounds and boundaries in order to provide public contact, ensure visitor safety, compliance with park rules and regulations and the Commonwealth’s Criminal and Vehicle Codes. PATROLS – Operates a motor vehicle, bicycle, ATV or boat to assist in patrolling park grounds at the new acquisition, Samuel S. Lewis and Susquehannock State Parks. Ensures visitor safety and protection of the resource. Provides assistance to visitors. Inspects buildings, structures and facilities for security and safety. Ensures the posters, bulletin boards and signs are current and serviceable. Ensures assigned equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and neat condition. EMERGENCIES – Takes charge of situations in emergencies, search and rescue and accidents to ensure the safety and protection of the visitor and the resource. Provides first aid and CPR consistent with current certifications. Directs traffic. Inspects buildings and structures for public safety hazards, takes action to correct hazards, or reports them to the supervisor/manager. PUBLIC RELATIONS - Presents a professional image to the general public through uniform appearance, verbal skills, courtesies, and knowledge of the park, the environment and history, rules, regulations and laws, telephone skills and a presence of self-confidence. Provides information and assistance to park visitors. Staffs park offices and visitor centers. Registers park visitors using PRRS. LAW ENFORCEMENT – Provides visitor and law enforcement services; prepare written reports. Maintain property log, lost and found articles, attendance reports and maintain water-testing logs. Maintain radio equipment inventory and repairs. REPORTS AND INSPECTIONS – Completes monthly and daily logs including the status and condition of campgrounds, group camps, facilities, equipment, visitor safety, occurring incidents, citations, arrests, accidents and attendance. Prepares correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other written materials and inputs data using a personal computer. Operates motor vehicles, both two and four wheel drive, all-terrain vehicles, non-motorized equipment, snowmobiles, and watercraft. Registers park visitors, posts camper and pavilion registrations, performs POS transactions and prepares end of day reports using a personal computer and the ReservePA system. Staffs park offices and visitor centers. Collects and reports data for attendance program by maintaining a spreadsheet and submitting to the Park Manager at the beginning of each month. Keeps appropriate records on automotive, safety, incidents and others as directed by the supervisor. Inspects trails and boundaries to ensure markers and signs are in place. Develops and delivers presentations to school groups, civic groups, sporting associations, and other special interest groups. Performs light maintenance duties as needed.
