Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position involves public contact and service, visitor services, outdoor recreation, and public safety within Big Elk Creek State Park and White Clay Creek Preserve.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Travel the park by vehicles, on foot, or by bicycle to alleviate problems or potential problems that might pose a threat to the health and safety of the park visitors. Inspect buildings, facilities, and grounds for safety hazards, immediately corrects, posts, or otherwise controls the hazard, and reports same to supervisor in a timely manner.

Monitors Park visitor's activities to insure proper use of the facilities. Secures and checks buildings, facilities, and equipment to protect from vandalism and theft.

Provides information to park visitors on park facilities, including activities, rules and regulations, policies, procedures, and environmental history, points of interest and nearby state parks. Provides proper and efficient emergency care of park visitors including CPR, First Aid, and search and rescue for lost persons. Uses park's reservation system and other computer programs to issue launch, mooring, camping, and pavilion permits/reservations. Accounts for all revenue received, delivers prepared bank deposits.

Informs Park visitors and requests compliance with park rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Issues courtesy notice within the guidelines of the Bureau Policy and Philosophy. Cooperates with State Police and other enforcement agencies having jurisdiction with the park. Assists with crowd control functions. Responds to complaints, non-vehicular accidents, and incidents. Reports violations of law to the Park Manager, and/or DCNR Ranger Supervisor.

Uses proper radio procedures, maintains radio traffic to a minimum. Ensures supervisor, ranger staff, maintenance staff and clerical staff are aware of happenings in the park that may affect their job responsibilities.

Prepares daily ranger logs, incident reports, vehicle use reports, etc. in a timely manner.

All equipment, including uniforms, and park vehicles must be used in a professional manner and in accordance with the Department and Bureau policies and procedures. All equipment, vehicles, and office space must be kept clean and organized.

Attend bi-annual training in CPR and First Aid provided by the Department.

Work is reviewed periodically and upon completion through personal observation for quality, timeliness, completeness, and attainment of project goals and objectives.

Experience:

All employees must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment
