Seasonal non-law enforcement position performing public contact, public service, and public safety work, providing visitors with information regarding the programs, resources, facilities, and activities available to them at Susquehanna Riverlands State Park Complex. Communicates and monitors visitor compliance with park regulations and rules related to the use of Bureau of State Park lands. In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. PATROLS Work involves patrolling the grounds, boundaries, and facilities of Susquehanna Riverlands State Park Complex, to ensure compliance with Bureau rules and regulations and ensure visitor safety. Informs a Park Manager or a DCNR Ranger immediately when encountered with a situation that requires law enforcement action. Work may involve the operation of motor vehicles, bicycles, all-terrain vehicles, and boats, to patrol the park’s grounds. Conducts foot patrols of park grounds and day use areas. Inspects buildings, structures, and other facilities to ensure security and safety. Ensures visitor safety, correcting safety hazards when found or bringing them to the attention of park management or the maintenance staff. Performs light maintenance as it pertains to public safety and public information. Ensures that the park’s natural resources are protected and being utilized properly by the visiting public. Helps visitors as needed, both in a visitor service capacity and a first-responder capacity. Ensures that park posters, bulletin boards, and signs are current and in good condition, so that information for visitors is clearly being communicated. Ensures assigned equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and professional condition. PUBLIC RELATIONS Presents a professional image to the public through adherence to the Bureau’s mission, professional language and conduct, uniform appearance, vehicle cleanliness and preparedness, a thorough knowledge of the park and its operations, a confident and helpful demeanor, verbal, and telephone skills, and practiced visitor service skills. Provides information and assistance to park visitors, as well as assists in maintaining the clarity of posted information for the visiting public. Maintains proficiency as a public guide by exercising and conveying a thorough knowledge of the park, the park's natural environment, and the park's history, as well as park rules and regulations. Staffs Park offices and visitor centers, greeting and assisting the public as needed. Successfully utilizes the Bureau’s online reservation system to facilitate reservations and other customer service functions. May assist the park's Environmental Education Specialist in preparing for, facilitating, and presenting interpretive and recreational programs for the public. Works directly with volunteers in organizing and/or supporting their efforts and works with campground hosts to best facilitate a quality camping experience for visitors. EMERGENCIES Responds to emergency situations in a manner that’s consistent with park policy, by utilizing the Emergency Manual for Gifford Pinchot State Park. Makes swift decisions and takes immediate corrective action when presented with an emergency including (but not limited to), search & rescue operations, boating and swimming rescues, vehicle accidents, traumatic injuries, as well as other accidents and injuries. Upon notification of an emergency, contacts, and coordinates with park staff to ensure swift and proper response, rescue, treatment, scene securement, and other corrective actions. During emergencies, ensures the safety and protection of visitors and the resource. Provides first aid and CPR consistent with current certifications. Directs traffic as needed. PREPAREDNESS Assists in ensuring that the park’s staff is prepared to respond to all emergency situations and to deal with specific challenges the park presents to emergency response. Maintains vehicles, ensuring that they are well-equipped to respond to potential emergencies specific to Gifford Pinchot State Park. Maintains patrol boats and related equipment, ensuring everything is in working order and prepared to respond to any lake emergency. Assists in keeping an inventory of medical supplies. Assists in ensuring that the park’s AEDs are in constant working order. REPORTS AND INSPECTIONS Completes monthly and daily logs, including the status and condition of facilities, equipment, visitor safety, incidents, accidents, maintenance, and attendance. Assists in maintaining a property log and lost and found articles. Reports attendance and ensures working order of vehicle counting equipment. Assists in maintaining the radio equipment inventor. Determines appropriate answers to questions from the public, regarding the park’s features and activities. |
