Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Serves as a public service, safety and law enforcement officer for the Ryerson Station State Park to ensure the safety of park visitors, park environment and park facilities, and to provide public contact. On occasion, heavy physical work is required, and hazardous conditions are encountered. Work is sometimes performed in inclement weather. Hiking and climbing over rough terrain are necessary. Weekend & evening work will be common and required. Overnight travel is occasionally required. This position performs duties that are routinely executed seven days a week and will routinely be scheduled to work varying schedules, weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed for park operations and to meet seasonal needs. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Work involves patrolling the park grounds and boundaries to provide public contact, ensure visitor safety, compliance with park rules and regulations and the Commonwealth’s Criminal and Vehicle Codes. PATROLS – Operates a motor vehicle, or UTV to patrol park grounds. Ensures visitor safety and protection of the resource. Aids visitors requiring help. Inspects buildings, structures and facilities for security and safety. Ensures the posters, bulletin boards and signs are current and serviceable. Ensures assigned equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and neat condition. PUBLIC RELATIONS – Presents a professional Park Ranger image to the general public through uniform appearance, verbal skills, courtesies, and knowledge of the park, the environment and history, rules, regulations and laws, telephone skills and a presence of self-confidence. Provides information and assistance to park visitors. Staffs Park offices and visitor center. Registers Park visitors using current park reservation system. LAW ENFORCEMENT – Enforces the provisions of the law, especially as it pertains to State Parks, makes physical arrests, and issues citations and warrants consistent with State, Departmental and Bureau Directives, guidelines, and regulations. Investigates complaints, accidents, and crimes. Determines what action to take, prepares incident reports and co-operates with the Local and State Police and the Fish and Game Commissions. Prosecutes cases, presents evidence and witnesses. Examines and cross examines witnesses and testifies on behalf of the Commonwealth before the courts. Maintains property log, lost, and found articles, assists with attendance reports. Maintain radio equipment inventory and repairs. EMERGENCIES – Takes charge in emergency situations, search and rescue and accidents to ensure the safety and protection of the visitor and the resource. Provides first aid and CPR consistent with current certifications. Directs traffic. Promptly reports emergencies to Park Manager. REPORTS AND INSPECTIONS – Complete monthly and daily logs including the status and condition of campgrounds, facilities, equipment, visitor safety, occurring incidents, citations, arrests, accidents, and attendance. Inspects and maintains first aid and safety equipment and informs Park Manager when supplies or replacements are needed.
