Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Initiates, develops, implements and evaluates communications and outreach activities for the Bureau of Facility Design and Construction (BFDC).

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Develops and implements the bureau’s statewide communication and outreach programs related to the environmental benefits of DCNR’s facility design standards.

Develops and evaluates a recurring program – such as a webinar series/workshop on green practices and the bureau’s role in ensuring compliance with environmental standards.

Collaborates with bureau and agency staff to develop marketing materials to illustrate how BFDC incorporates sustainable design practices.

Develops and markets educational content to promote the design principles that support green infrastructure, climate resilience, and sustainable design in DCNR’s facility and design projects.

Develops evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of outreach efforts and recommends policy or procedural changes to improve public understanding of the bureau’s mission as it relates to conservation, recreation, green infrastructure, and other long standing agency goals and programs.

Represents the bureau on interagency working groups focused on public education.

Plans and executes outreach strategies, develops content, and advises leadership on communication priorities.

Creates reporting documents for bureau projects and initiatives for internal and external stakeholders.

Responds to inquiries from the public, legislators, industry groups, executive staff, and partners, including responding to right to know requests.

Assists in the management of the department’s social media presence as it pertains to the BFDC.

Plans and coordinates marketing of internal and public events including ground breakings, ribbon cuttings, fairs, legislative, and college events, etc. Prepares event documents, presentations, and other logistics.

Develops talking points for speaking engagements for Bureau Director and other agency staff.

Coordinates with the Director of Communications regarding the implementation of communications plans for BFDC.

Fosters a partnership with the Communications and Outreach Section staff in the Bureaus of Parks and Forestry to share and leverage resources.

Travels to project sites; gathers, compiles, and develops newsworthy articles, memos, reports, and presentations to convey the bureau’s activities and support the Department’s mission.

The position develops tools to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of communications. Work is reviewed by the direct supervisor and all external communications are vetted through the agency Communications Office prior to messaging release.
