Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Duties of a Farm Show Laborer Employee are many and varied. It is difficult to apply a degree of importance to the different tasks because all jobs performed contribute to the completeness and efficiency of operation at the Farm Show Complex. Will be responsible to help setup, maintain and teardown for the various types of events held at the complex. Maintain complex grounds and facility buildings with regards to trash and custodial functions, general maintenance, meeting and banquet setups, grounds keeping and snow removal. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Duties performed at varying times throughout the course of employment include: Must be comfortable working in crowds and around livestock and other display items. Help assemble, repair, clean and disassemble livestock stalls, to include cattle, horse, sheep, swine, goat and other livestock pens and poultry cages. Sweep, mop, scrub floor surfaces. Remove trash, manure, stickers, gum and any other unwanted items from floor and parking lot surfaces. Dust and polish furniture and fixtures. Haul, setup, place and teardown tables, chairs, benches, stage, steps, barriers, gates, fence, coat racks, furniture, display cases, easels, dorm beds, fans, plywood sheets, projector screens, refrigerators, wheelbarrows, fence, chain. Hang and teardown signs and banners. Spread tanbark, shavings and straw. Remove manure from various surfaces and in arena rings during livestock shows. Load and unload straw, hay and feed from trailers. Load and unload scrap metal and wood trucks. Remove tree branches and debris from creek area. Custodial functions to include restroom cleaning, trash removal, stocking of restrooms. Wash windows of all sizes. Maintain employees’ lunchroom, computer room and locker rooms. Setup tables, chairs, stage in meeting and banquet areas. Power wash and hose down different areas/surfaces. Remove manure after the livestock events. Shovels snow, sweeps and cleans walk areas, rakes debris, and assists in keeping complex grounds and entrances clean and free of trash. Scrub down and disinfect restrooms, pens, stalls, floors and various other items. Paint walls, fence, ticket booths, coat rack and other items as needed. Use basic handheld tools and janitorial equipment. Moves and lifts heavy furniture and equipment; delivers supplies. Perform other related duties as assigned Essential Functions: 11. Decision Making: Describe the types of decisions made by the incumbent of this position and the types of decisions referred to others. Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. Work is assigned at the beginning and during the work shift. Work performance is personally checked periodically throughout the day by the supervisor. Work is assigned verbally to individuals or if job tasks require it, a group of individuals. At the beginning of each work shift, work assignments and requirements are reviewed by the supervisory staff. Assignments are made according to need, with most critical job tasks assigned for immediate completion and less critical tasks assigned for later completion. All Farm Show Laborer employees are supervised by the Equipment, Groundskeeping and Operations Supervisors. The Supervisor’s Classification is a working supervisory position and at varying times the supervisors are assisting the labor force with completion of job responsibilities. This allows the supervisor to obtain on-the-job evaluation of the employees work performance. |
