Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Responsible for the technical field inspection of boilers and unfired pressure vessels, liquefied petroleum gas installations and flammable and combustible liquid installations to determine and enforce compliance with the State Boiler Law, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Law and the Flammable and Combustible Liquid Law and regulations and accepted national standards. Performs required duties under the direct supervision of the District Supervisor and the general supervision of the Director of the Boiler Section in the Bureau of Occupational and Industrial Safety. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Assists the Commissioned Boiler Inspector in the inspection of the vessels for corrosion, pitting, cracks, leaks, deterioration and other defects or conditions which could cause eventual malfunction of the vessel. Assists the Commissioned Boiler Inspector with conducting inspections to determine tension of boilers and calculates bursting points and safe working pressure, using algebra, plain and solid geometry. Assists the Commissioned Boiler Inspector with performing safety test of valves and other attachments for safe operation of the vessel and checks dependability of the feed water supply and the location of the valves. Assists the Commissioned Boiler Inspector with conducting an inspection of installations to assure that work has been completed in accordance with the approved plans or “intent to install” form and minimum requirements as set forth in the regulations are met. Assists the Commissioned Boiler Inspector with reporting conditions found to be unsafe and violations of the rules and regulations of the Boiler, Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Flammable and Combustible Liquids Laws. Assists the Commissioned Boiler Inspector with Preparing detailed reports of findings as a result of an inspection and investigation and forwards to the Harrisburg office on a timely basis. Assists the Commissioned Boiler Inspector with Requiring owners/users of boilers/pressure vessels, liquefied petroleum gas and flammable and combustible liquids locations to place equipment out of service until such time necessary repairs are made and compliance with the regulations are met. Assists the Commissioned Boiler Inspector with Conducting follow-up inspections of establishments and locations to insure compliance of reported deficiencies and provides a report of findings. Assists the Commissioned Boiler Inspector with investigating reported accidents involving boilers/pressure vessels, liquefied petroleum gas and flammable and combustible liquids. Assists Commissioned Boiler Inspector with Conducting and witnesses hydrostatic tests on boilers to verify compliance with the Boiler Law and Regulations. Assists Commissioned Boiler Inspector with performing inspections of a technical nature to determine whether the state law and regulations governing the storage and handling of liquefied petroleum gases and flammable and combustible liquids are being followed. Exercises initiative, independent judgment and tact in securing compliance and dealing with the general public in a daily basis. Required to ascertain facts by personal contact and observation of the conditions. Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with all public and work related contacts.
