Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Under the close supervision of a UCC Elevator Inspector Supervisor and other qualified trainees in the Bureau of Occupational and Industrial Safety, performs work of a training nature in the inspection of elevators and other lifting devices for compliance with the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and other applicable state laws, regulations and standards.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Assists in the inspection of elevators and other lifting devices to determine whether the load for each installation is designed properly, can safely sustain the intended load and that all safety devices are functioning properly.

Assists in the inspection of elevators and other lifting devices by actual observation from within and on top of the load carrying devices and within machinery, hoistway or travelway areas. Assists in visually examining and/or operating cars, controls, hoistways, guide rails, suspension means, counterweights, all safety devices and locking mechanisms, doors and gates, electrical wiring and apparatus, hydraulic systems, machinery and other appurtenances for conformance to safety standards.

Assists in the inspection of new installations or major repairs of elevators and other lifting devices to determine compliance with approved plans.

Assists in evaluating conditions and circumstances to determine if elevators and other lifting devices found to be unsafe may continue in operation or be sealed out of service.

Assists in the investigation of elevator accidents and serious matters unresolved by authorized inspectors.

Assists in the preparation of detailed reports of each inspection or investigation.

Prepares draft reports of findings for review by a higher-level inspector.

Participates in classroom and on-the-job training.

Assists in the interpretation of applicable rules and regulations for manufacturers, owners, and users of elevators, building contractors, authorized inspectors and other interested persons.
