Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is a technical position in the field of biology, vector surveillance and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Work primarily involves statewide surveillance of ticks. This position will be required to work with biting arthropods that may be capable of transmitting disease. This position may require significant and extended overnight travel. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. -Conducts statewide surveillance for tick species as part of the Tick Surveillance and Testing Program -Conducts laboratory examinations of biological samples to determine arthropod population age, sex, and species of ticks as well as other arthropods when needed. -Records and enters field data from tick collections into the internal database. -Works with Vector Management and Regional personnel in investigative studies of tick and arthropod activity. -Works as a member of the statewide rapid response team for ticks and associated diseases. -Assists in the development of strategies with other program staff to develop alterations or innovations to existing monitoring programs. -Prepares analysis and reports of Vector Management studies. -Collect aquatic samples using the appropriate equipment to determine water quality parameters. -Collect samples using appropriate equipment and record black fly or other macroinvertebrates samples for water quality assessments. -Equipment will be used to collect environmental parameters while sampling including continuous monitoring methods. These include temperature, dissolved oxygen, and humidity. -Mosquito, Blackfly, and Tick samples will be collected and the data used in various metrics to determine nuisance thresholds and disease risk calculations. -A GIS based oracle database will be used to upload sampling data and establish sampling sites. GIS will be utilized to generate maps upon request to display sampling results and disease presence. -Promotes the Department’s mission. -Inputs appropriate data in a prescribed format to meet data quality standards set forth by guidance, training, and policy across all of DEP’s electronic data systems; to include ensuring accuracy and completeness of entries, and where available, the use of system specific tools to ensure duplicative entries and data quality issues are minimized. -Assists in the analysis of biological indices of vector populations to determine IPM priorities based on risk to human health. -This position description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position.
