Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position provides laboratory support within multiple Sections of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory (PVL). The employee is based in the Immunology Section - Avian and Mammalian Serology but contributes seasonal effort toward chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing and effort as needed toward avian influenza testing. With supervision, the employee assists with tasks including data entry, test set-up, processing of specimens, laboratory stocking and restocking, laboratory organization, waste management, and cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Assists higher level technicians or microbiologists with test set up. Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment or specimens as needed. Processes laboratory samples after training is completed and approval has been granted. Enters data into LIMS under the supervision of experienced technician(s) or other staff. Stocks and restocks supplies and forms in various areas of the laboratory, including necropsy. Assists with organizing biohazard boxes and other sample boxes. Assists with disposal of testing materials. Performs other assignments and related work as required. |
