Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is designed to provide the candidate with the initial skills and information necessary to begin his/her police career. The candidate must successfully complete the basic MPOETC training program requirements prior to performing any police-related duties, obtain Act 120 certification, and the departments field training course.

Description of Duties:

An employee in this job is enrolled in a MPOETC approved Act 120 certification program designed to develop proficiency in law interpretation and application, legal procedures, police operations, public safety, physical fitness, self-defense, firearms use, first aid, report writing, maintenance and use of equipment, and law enforcement practices.

The candidate must have the ability to read and interpret written materials, such as laws and regulations, follow oral and written instructions, use sound judgement, to observe, assess, and evaluate surroundings and accurately recall facts, operate a motor vehicle, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Experience:

1. Must maintain a valid PA Class C driver's license.
2. Must achieve MPOETC Act 120 Requirements and standards.
3. Must be a resident of Pennsylvania.
4. The Municipal Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) requires that individuals must be a U.S. citizen in order to receive police officer certification.
5. Candidates must successfully pass a medical exam, urinalysis screening, psychological evaluation, voice stress exam, hearing and vision exam, and a physical fitness test that includes running, swimming, strength and agility, and any other test deemed appropriate for the pre-service registration.
6. Candidates are required to be enrolled in, participate, and complete the MPOETC approved Act 120 training, by the end of the probationary period, to obtain authority to exercise the powers of arrest. Act 120 certification must be obtained to successfully complete the intern program.
