Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position manages the Department of Agriculture’s Farm to School program and oversees initiatives to increase markets for Pennsylvania food and agricultural products among schools and other institutional buyers.

Description of Duties:

Farm to School Program
• Generates Farm to School programming and initiatives that align with departmental goals, policies, and initiatives.
• Manages, administers, and promotes the Pennsylvania Farm to School Grant Program in coordination with the Grants Manager.
• Develops, implements and maintains a local food tracking system for programs such as the PA Farm to School Program or Local Food for Schools.
• Gathers and analyzes data from the Farm to School Grant Program and makes recommendations for further, policy, funding or development.
• Coordinates with the PA Department of Education, the PA Statewide Farm to School Network, PA Commission for Ag Education Excellence, and the PA Food Policy Council on Farm to School programming and initiatives.
• Participates in the policy, networking and implementation working groups with the PA Farm to School Network.
• Assists in the development and execution of Farm to Institution based trainings with the Chief of Food Systems.
• Continues to develop and execute PA Preferred® Days each October.
• Analyzes Farm to School work across the state and makes recommendations for technology to support, enhance or create efficiency in the work.
• Creates informational displays regarding Farm to School for the Pennsylvania Farm Show and other events.
• Attends Farm to School summits, conferences, and other events.
• Tracks national Farm to School trends and creates opportunities to grow Pennsylvania programming in schools.

Food Assistance
• Responsible for coordination of F2S efforts between the PDA Bureau of Market Development, PDA Bureau of Food Assistance, and PDE Division of Food and Nutrition
• Responsible for compiling and maintaining a list of PA producers who have previously supplied or are interested in supplying locally-produced foods to PA SFAs, ECE locations, etc.
• Provides assistance to the Bureau of Food Assistance in administering grants related to F2S activities. This can include tasks such as grant application reviews, collecting required grant reporting information and other relevant data, and other related grant-administration assistance.

Commission on Agriculture Education Excellence
• Attends commission meetings.
• Provides administrative coordination to the Executive Director.
• Makes connections between the commission and all “Farm to” programming.

Bureau
• Demonstrates a commitment to meeting and exceeding expectations of the bureau/program's customer(s) at all times.
• Applies Lean tool(s) to day-to-day tasks when a process has been identified for improvement.
• Other duties as assigned.

Interpret Farm to School legislation, program guidelines and goals/priorities of the Administration. Position is expected to resolve unusual problems on his/her own, research issues and recommend actions and resolve problems without oversight or direction. Maintain compliance with procurement, contracting, and partners outside the Department.
