Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is a health administration paid internship conducted over the course of no more than one year. Its goal is to provide the student an opportunity to complete the required 1,000 hours for Pennsylvania’s Administrator-in-training (AIT) under a licensed nursing home administrator while fulfilling their master’s degree fieldwork. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Shadows and engages with members of the veterans home leadership team, veterans home department heads, and headquarters staff to learn the organization and its mission and to participate in the veterans home’s core operational areas and activities. Rotates through different veterans home operational areas including nursing, social services, activities, administration/leadership, dietary, maintenance, records, housekeeping, safety/environment, human resources, finance, admissions, and quality assurance. Learns each area’s functions, processes, and requirements. Participates in and completes projects as directed by the Director of Long-term Care and the Director, Bureau of Veterans Homes. Conducts research, proposes ideas and solutions, and presents final recommendations and materials. Attends various meetings with management where direction, policy, and strategic planning, and operational issues are addressed. Maintains a report of progress, observations, reflections, and projects. Travels to other veterans homes and to Fort Indiantown Gap. Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to the supervisor. Use required personal protective equipment such as a face mask. Performs other related duties as required. **Must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.** |
