Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Maintenance of Active Member Accounts (in excess of 100,000 members): Responsible for analyzing complex member financial data as well as demographic data posted to member accounts as well as those of prior members of the system who have elected to become a multiple service member. Daily-run reports as well as the Discoverer tool are used to facilitate research criteria. In addition, research is performed on accounts at the direction of others within the Office of Member Services. This position is responsible for all adjustments/verifying of member accounts to include service credit, earnings, contributions, interest and any other demographic changes necessary. Restructuring of Member Accounts: responsible for the Creation/Adjustment of member accounts including but not limited to, return to service of an annuitant or the settlement of an arbitration/grievance. This requires the proper adjustment to service class and category as well as the appropriate breakdown of member monies by tax type. In addition, interpretation of the State Employees’ Retirement Code, Rules and Regulations, Court Orders and / or legal opinion as they apply is required. Divorce proceedings: Responsible for the calculation of member contributions, interest and service for members from the effective date of membership through specified date. This information is provided to Retirement Counselors to incorporate into retirement calculations. Accuracy of this data is vital should the member proceed with divorce proceedings, as this information determines the extent to which a member is responsible financially for a former spouse in the event the member retires. Member Statements/Inquiries: Responsible for the research of member inquiries concerning incorrect financial and/or demographic information contained thereon. This research could result in the adjustment of a member record and the subsequent written notification to the member as well as the issuance of a corrected member statement. Pre-Retirement Service Verification; Research all member accounts prior to retirement/furloughs to assure the accuracy of class, category, and coverage as well as the correct calculation of service credits by class and category. Also provide the same type of research on accounts as warranted by legislative changes/downsizing by employers, etc. Communications: Prepare original correspondence and or verbal responses to legislators, attorneys, agency personnel, controller, Internal Agency Personnel and members regarding routine and non-routine questions and issues as they pertain to the State Employees’ Retirement System. Assists in work in all units within the Division during times of significant backlog or special projects or during process redesigns, reconciliation, or legislative proposals. Performs related duties as required and assigned. |
Decision Making: Describe the types of decisions made by the incumbent of this position and the types of decisions referred to others. Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. Participates on or leads project teams responsible for the implementation of new business processes as the result of policy changes brought about by court decisions or legislation. Participates in the design, development, and testing of spreadsheets and automated tracking systems, and writing workflow procedures. Incumbents will review and analyze complex member accounts to determine accuracy and correctness. Initiate, process, verify complex accounts and make manual changes to accounts if/when needed. As well as updating demographic data posted to member accounts to determine footprint eligibility. Creates or adjusts member accounts as a result of a return to service of an annuitant or the settlement of an arbitration or grievance and determine retroactive market-based applications to defined contribution accounts. Investigates, resolves, and monitors complaints or inquiries received from members, their representatives, or the third-party administrator. |
