Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. The purpose of this position is to further the goals of the Bureau of Forestry’s Community Forestry Program. The Community Forestry Program seeks to increase and enhance community tree canopy through community engagement, education, outreach, workforce development, and capacity building. The focus is building trust and local capacity through Commonwealth investments in funding, technical assistance, and partnerships. Outcomes include increased tree canopy that provides social, economic, human health, and environmental benefits while fostering long-term, community-led stewardship. This position focuses on community forestry workforce development, community capacity building, training, volunteer programing, and outreach. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Job Duties include: 1. Guide and manage the Correctional Conservation Collaborative in collaboration with DCNR’s Executive Policy Office and the Department of Corrections. 2. Engage the public and new partners to help advance community workforce development. 3. Build technical assistance and capacity among community forestry partners, building on successful programs like “Tree Tenders.” 4. Support existing and new partners in building volunteer bases in communities across the Commonwealth. 5. Provide strategic input and direction, assistance, and information to DCNR staff about community forestry workforce development and the community forestry statewide volunteer system. 6. Work with partners and other staff to help create a pipeline for community members to be stewards of their own trees and forests. 7. Assist with Outdoor Corps job pipeline development. 8. Partner with professional associations to facilitate private-sector involvement. 9. Work with schools and teachers to develop community forestry career paths for students. 10. Connect with local governments, nonprofits, and other relevant partners in the community forestry workforce throughout the commonwealth to develop a statewide partnership and technical assistance network. 11. Serve as the Pennsylvania Volunteer and Partnerships Coordinator to US Forest Service and the corresponding Northeast Midwest State Foresters Alliance Urban and Community Forestry Committee. 12. Work with the Department of Labor & Industry to understand workers compensation, prevailing wage, and similar related issues to inform BOF efforts. 13. Build an employer network of nurseries, arboricultural/landscaping companies, training programs, and Universities/educators to build workforce career paths and pipelines. 14. At the direction of the Director’s Office, work with DCNR HR to improve the bureau’s recruitment, retention and workforce development programs. 15. Work with DCNR’s Volunteer Programs to include Community Forestry projects. 16. Work with internal efforts related to community workforce development in DCNR 17. Facilitate inter-agency work with Labor and Industry, DCED, Department of Education and others. 18. Facilitate and build a mentorship network among community forestry workforce development program participants and leaders. 19. Assist with the aggregation and communication of program accomplishments from the partners (number of trainings held, number of workers trained, volunteer hours etc.). 20. Support other areas of programming within the Bureau of Forestry. 21. Perform occasional public relations duties, including staffing display booths, presenting to interested groups, and participating in meetings with cooperating public and private agencies. 22. Attend and participate in appropriate training programs and conferences. |
