Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. This position involves skilled work in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment systems; including collection lines and a chlorinated well water distribution system. WCE-7,8, and 12 certification and WWD-1,4 certification. Learns to operate and maintain Wastewater Treatment facilities in the Quehanna Complex within permit requirement. Performs typical plant maintenance and operations and is responsible for the maintenance of the complex's water storage and distribution system and the sewage collection and treatment system. Work involves operating, maintaining, and repairing the motors, pumps, valves, aerators, chemical feeders, chlorinators, filters, flow meters, controllers and related equipment involved in the water distribution and sewage collection and treatment process. Conducts the sampling and testing and identifies acceptable potability and pH of drinking water for human consumption and how to ensure acceptable pH level, purity, clarity, and biochemical level and safety of the sewage effluent to meet DEP and EPA license standards. Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment. Work is performed following established procedures and guidelines and is reviewed upon completion by a technical or administrative supervisor for quality and continuity of services. LABORATORY DUTIES Collects samples of water and sewage influent an effluent and conduct tests following prescribed testing procedures, using prescribed test equipment, and recording findings on prescribed forms to meet reporting requirements. Reads flow meters on daily basis and downloads meter recordings on a weekly basis. Prepares various reports. Administers coliform testing program for potable water and E.coli testing of beach water by collecting samples, completing forms, delivering samples and reviewing results. Makes recommendations to correct coliform problems. Prepares (daily, weekly, quarterly) reports indicating the results of chemical tests, amounts of chemicals used, amount of sewage or water treated or processed following established criteria and using prescribed forms to meet reporting requirements. Maintains lab equipment by standardizing, cleaning, adjusting and repairing to ensure proper test results. Contact manufacturer’s technicians by telephone, letter, fax or email to accomplish repairs. PLUMBING DUTIES Maintains water and sewage lines by visually inspecting for breaks, assisting with digging up and repairing, keeping water and sewage lines marked and mowed, engaging water line blow offs and air relief valves as needed to flush the lines. Visually inspects and repairs all plumbing fixtures in the absence of the Moshannon maintenance staff. Assists Moshannon staff with winterizing and energizing plumbing to unheated buildings by turning shutoffs, taking flush valves apart, disconnecting and draining water supply pipes to fixtures. OTHER DUTIES Assists District Forester with Safety Officer responsibilities. Maintains confined space program and calibrates air monitoring meter used with confined space entrances. Operates two-way radio in accordance with proper procedure. Consults with Department engineering staff as required to address operating problems. Assists a licensed herbicide applicator in the control of invasive species throughout the complex. Assists other Moshannon State Forest employees with routine work when laboratory work is completed or as assigned by supervisor. May be required to work weekends, holidays, and under unusual conditions, may be required to work varied shifts. Performs related duties as required. |
