Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Employee is responsible for the direct supervision of salaried maintenance staff and seasonal/wage maintenance staff. Responsible for the maintenance, improvements, planning, and supervision of the Laurel Caverns trails, both above ground and underground in the Cave System. Also responsible for maintaining approximately 430 acres and the Park boundary. Serves as the Right to Know Coordinator for the Park. Assist in the supervision of repairs in Laurel Caverns State Park, to include building and infrastructure inventory and demolition. This includes the Visitor Center, Maintenance Shed, among various other historical buildings on site. Supervise and maintain all ordering of Park supplies and repairs for carpentry, mechanical, plumbing and electrical needs, as per the state contract purchasing policy and procedure. Responsible for the inventory control and maintenance of the Park’s confined space equipment including safety training. Coordinates with the Park Manager on all work projects and planning schedules. Supervises a crew of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance and trades positions engaged in the construction and maintenance of park facilities, and in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment. Plans, organizes, schedules, and assigns work to subordinates. Evaluates employee work performance and prepares and signs Employee Performance Evaluation Report. Receives grievances and complaints, conducts investigation into causes and conditions, discusses with employee, and resolves or recommends solution to grievances and complaints. Interviews and makes selection or ranks applicant in terms of suitability for employment. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests. Interprets contractual and administrative rights and obligations for employees. Demonstrates proper methods and techniques for performance of the work and operation of equipment and tools to subordinates; discusses safety precautions and hazards with subordinates and ensures safety procedures are followed. Prepares rough sketches or diagrams for projects; determines needs in terms of person power, equipment, and supplies; notifies supervisor of needs to complete project. Prepares time sheets for subordinates indicating time worked, leave taken, and overtime worked. Demonstrates the proper use and maintenance of small and medium size construction equipment such as farm tractors, bulldozers, graders, front-end loaders, and single chassis trucks, as needed, to complete construction projects or perform maintenance activities. Prepares or reviews automotive equipment reports and ensures they are complete and accurate. Prepares estimates of costs for major maintenance and construction activities. Assists in the supervision of water and sewage treatment plant operations. Operates a motor vehicle to travel to various work sites. Prepares reports on park maintenance activities. Ability to maintain DEP Standards for the Drinking and Wastewater Treatment Systems at the Park. Ability to participate in resource management projects throughout the Park. Assists other Parks in the Laurel Highlands Division as requested. Performs related work as required. |

Employees at Laurel Caverns State Park are supervised directly by the Park Maintenance Supervisor and reviewed by the Park Manager. Adheres to State purchasing policies and procedures. |
