Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. An employee in this class performs various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of machinery, vehicles, machinery, facilities, bridges and equipment in the park. Work involves proficiency in several trades, with working conditions and the degree of lead work exercised differing by location, condition, and the nature of assignments. Employees exercise technical independence in determining work methods and procedures and receive assignments orally or through written instructions, which may be accompanied by sketches or diagrams. Review of work is received from technical or administrative superiors through inspections and discussions. EQUIPMENT OPERATION - Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment in a safe responsible manner. Prepare and maintain automotive/equipment reports, daily maintenance logs, and oil/gas measurements. MECHANICAL - perform mechanical work on all park vehicles, trucks, tractors, mowers and small power equipment. This includes routine work such as changing filters, belts, tires and oil; lube jobs, replacing mufflers and tail pipes, etc. Major work includes brake jobs, tune-ups, adjusting valves, carburetors etc. ELECTRICAL - repairing and installing outlets, switches, lights, electric heaters and fans, etc. Installation and repair of electric service on cabins and park buildings. PLUMBING- install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures, lavatories, water closets, water fountains, water lines, water heating equipment, etc. Drains pipes in preparation for winter. CARPENTRY - operate power carpentry tools to perform rough and finish general carpentry in maintenance, renovation, construction of park facilities. Repair or install floor coverings, windows, doors, locks, roofs, soffit, fascia, spouting; install flashing and lay shingles. MASONRY - Perform new and maintenance work in connection with buildings, bridges, foundations, walks, and walls. Construct forms for cement work, mix cement and plaster, finishes cement using mason's tools, pour footers, floors, walls, and sign bases. Lay concrete blocks, stones, and brick. LANDSCAPING - repair, renovate, and maintain turf areas, roads, trails, paths, walkways. Pruning of tree stock and hedges, planting/transplanting of landscape stock. Cut grass using mowers or lawn tractors. Removes snow from sidewalks, parking areas, and roads using basic snow removal equipment. GENERAL- Maintain a clean work environment, cleans and store tools properly. Maintain and update tool inventories. Store materials in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and protect from unnecessary damage. Clean Park facilities, restrooms, pavilions, etc. Paint interior and exterior of buildings. Ability to participate in resource management projects throughout the Park. Assists other Parks in the Laurel Highlands Division as requested. Performs other duties as required. |
