Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Affairs, provides psychiatrist services, specifically psychiatric services to the students of the Hiram G. Andrews Center.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Provide consultation services on an as-needed basis for new and potential admissions to the Hiram G. Andrews Center and provide chart review.
Consult with Center staff with relation to appropriate treatment for customers.
Refer customers to other physicians, psychologists, hospitals, and other facilities as indicated.
Review reports from other physicians, and any applicable medical reports, and acts upon recommendations and/or findings, as indicated.
Maintain complete records on all customers who have received services.
Provide recommendations to the rehabilitation team of professionals and monitors any follow-up on recommendations made.
Communicates with HGAC Wellness Center physicians and/or the customer’s personal physician, as indicated.
Review medical records for the OVR District Office and provide appropriate recommendations.
Examines customers to determine the presence of mental illness, obtains medical histories, diagnoses illness, and prescribes and carries out the course of treatment.
Checks on the care and progress of treatment of customers.
Administers or directs the administration of treatments using somatic, group, or milieu therapy and other psychotherapeutic methods and medications.
Possess general knowledge of regulations governing licensure, especially as related to chemical and physical restraints and monitoring as well as dose reduction of psychotropic medications.
Confers with and advises members of the medical staff and Wellness Center personnel, agencies, relatives, and other interested persons on the care, treatment, and prognosis of customers.
Serves as treatment team member.
Directs and instructs nurses, other professional and non-professional staff in the care and treatment of customers with mental health conditions.
Attends and participates in staff conferences for the discussion of the diagnosis, treatment, or discharge of customers.
May testify as an expert psychiatric witness in legal proceedings regarding customers.
Performs related work as required.

The individual in this position uses substantial independent judgment and initiative in providing medical services (medical examinations and treatment) to the students at the Hiram G. Andrews Center. Issues not addressed within the existing policy and procedure guidelines or issues that have implications external to the delivery of medical services or HGAC should be referred to the Supervisor.

Experience:

License to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as issued by the State Board of Medical Education and Licensure, or the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners.
