Position Purpose:

The Geospatial Specialist at the FTIG-TC is responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of geospatial information to support military training exercises and operations. This role involves utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create maps, databases, and visualizations that aid in mission planning and execution. The specialist will work with a variety of data sources, including satellite imagery and military intelligence, to provide accurate and timely geospatial products

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Procure, edit, model, maintain, and manage facility and land-based geographical information for FTIG-TC to include data entry of mapping, modeling, and information on GIS. Create and maintain high-quality maps, charts, and other geospatial products for both digital and hardcopy distribution.

Ensures Range Training Land Assessment (RTLA) and military training facility management geographical and Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) data meet National Guard Bureau (NGB) and Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) standards.

Ensure that enterprise GIS database quality control and security safeguards are maintained.

Research information needed from various sources (surveys, aerial photographs, Property Appraiser data, plans, Department of Transportation maps, County maps, record drawings, and as-built drawings).

Interpret field notes, sketches, and instructions from surveyors, Range and Training Land Program (RTLP) and RTLA crews, and engineers. Manipulate and manage CADD files in GIS software.

Provide supporting information, recommendations, and mapping services explicitly in support of the SRP Specialist for use in the Range Complex Master Plan (RCMP) and planning process, and in the development of the final products submitted with the RCMP.

Gather and process Global Positioning Satellite System field data, digital map data file production and map printing to include acquiring data in the field using GPS equipment.

Respond to military, federal, and state information inquiries by accessing and generation data from the spatial database.

Perform spatial analysis to identify trends, patterns, and relationships that support military operations and disaster relief efforts. This includes creating ingress/egress routes and line-of-sight products.

Coordinates with ARNG and other DoD entities in creating and updating the installation's surface danger zone (SDZ) maps.

Work directly with MUIR Army Heliport and Pennsylvania Army National Guard Aviation to provide up to date aeronautical maps.

Provide technical support and training to military personnel on the use of GIS tools and applications. This may include assisting with the use of Training Aids, Devices, Simulators, and Simulations (TADSS).

Manage the DMVA GIS server in a versioned geodatabase environment.

Perform analyses of data for vegetation management, range modernization and development, and soldier safety.

Chair the DMVA GIS Working Group.

Write project and procedure documentation.

Prepares and presents briefings.

Other responsibilities may include budgeting, staff training and supervision of subordinates and interns.

Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

**Must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.**

Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor, and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to the supervisor.

Proficiency with GIS software. GIS Specialists must be adept at managing relational databases that store geographical data. SQL is crucial for managing and querying relational databases. Python is extensively used for automating tasks and performing spatial analysis. The most common software includes Esri's ArcGIS (including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online) and the open-source QGIS.
