JOB TITLE: CORRECTIONS STOCK CLERK

DEFINITION: This is work in the care, custody, and control of inmates involved in

receiving and issuing materials, supplies, goods, tools, and equipment.

An employee in this job handles the receipt, storage, distribution, and inventory control activities for a variety of stock items and supplies in a storeroom setting, the shipping and receiving of raw and finished goods in a manufacturing setting, and the fulfillment of inmate orders within the commissary. Work involves recordkeeping duties, including the use of specialized warehouse and inventory software, in the receiving, storing, issuing, and care of supplies; maintaining records of items ordered and received; preparing a list of stock items to be reordered; conducting inventories; inspecting the quality of goods; and checking items received against the purchase order. Work includes overseeing an inmate work detail, distributing inmate orders, ensuring controlled items are properly secured, exchanging inmate laundry and clothing, and repairing inmate clothing. Work may include using mechanized storeroom equipment to move materials. Work assignments are prioritized by the supervisor and the employee is responsible for determining the work methods used to complete the assignments. Work is reviewed through inspections and upon completion for compliance with established standards and procedures.

• Scans, receives, and records delivery orders; oversees proper storage of goods including controlled items; and distributes orders to inmates.

• Assembles stock items in accordance with an electronic requisition order, packs shipments, and loads goods.

• Inspects the quality of items received, completes a report for items which are damaged or for partial shipments, and processes returns and refunds.

• Reviews inmate orders and records of inmates’ status and location, verifies an inmate’s identity before distributing items, and routes goods to outside facilities when inmates transfer.

• Stores, maintains, distributes, and keeps records of tools and storeroom equipment.

• Takes inventory and initiates requisitions to replenish stock based on current inventory and use of the items to avoid overstocking or expiration of products.

• Drives vehicles on facility grounds and to outside areas to make local pickups and deliveries.

• Operates a forklift, hand truck, or other storeroom equipment to move oversized or heavy materials.

• Supervises an inmate work detail engaged in shipping, receiving, or issuing stock items or commissary goods.

• Oversees the distribution of new clothing and ensures the proper collection and distribution of laundry for inmates.

• Supervises repairs made to inmate clothing using various sewing equipment and tools.

• Maintains sewing equipment and hand tools.

• Assists in searching inmates and work areas for contraband.

• Compiles and maintains daily and weekly reports of sales data and inmate attendance and payroll.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of stockroom, warehouse, and storekeeping methods and procedures.

• Knowledge of basic shipping and receiving processes.

• Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.

• Ability to operate storeroom equipment.

• Ability to plan, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of an assigned work detail.

• Ability to maintain accurate records.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities)

• One year of stockroom, warehouse, retail sales, or clerical experience;

or

• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

• Certain positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
