JOB TITLE: CORRECTIONS COMMUNITY CENTER MONITOR

DEFINITION: This is work in the care, custody, control, and monitoring of reentrants in a state-operated community corrections center on an assigned shift.
An employee in this job oversees and regulates the activities of reentrants who are housed at a state-operated community corrections center in a less structured environment prior to release into the community. Work includes monitoring, recording, and reporting the behavior and controlled movements of reentrants; ensuring protection and safety of reentrants and property; assigning and assisting reentrants in janitorial and housekeeping functions; and answering inquiries concerning operation of the center. Work may also include providing informal encouragement to reentrants in their adjustment for reentry into society. Work is performed under the direction of an administrative supervisor in accordance with center rules, regulations, and special instructions, and is evaluated for effectiveness through observations, inspections, conferences, and examinations of reports and records.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (NOTE: The examples of work are representative of the work, but every position classified to this job may not perform all examples of work listed. Conversely, this is not an all-inclusive list of work examples.):
• Searches reentrants and their possessions upon return to the center and conducts inspections of reentrants’ living and common areas for contraband, cleanliness, and to ensure compliance with center rules and regulations.
• Maintains sign in/out register for all reentrants and visitors.
• Controls and reports disturbances at the center for the protection and safety of reentrants and visitors.
• Issues misconduct reports on reentrants committing infractions of center rules and attends disciplinary hearings.
• Reports noted changes in reentrants' behavior, physical condition, or other unusual occurrences for use by other staff.
• Assists reentrants by providing information on availability of public services in areas of employment, transportation, recreation, health, and religious services.
• Provides informal verbal encouragement to reentrants in their adjustment to living outside a correctional facility.
• Issues receipts for cash, checks, and money orders received from reentrants and transmits to appropriate personnel for processing.
• Maintains security over and conducts inventories of prescription medication for reentrants' use.
• Takes count of reentrants throughout assigned shift and reports unauthorized absences to an administrative supervisor.
• Administers and documents breathalyzer and urinalysis results from reentrants returning from temporary home furloughs (overnight visits) or on other occasions.
• Assigns rooms, issues bed clothes, and gives information on center rules and regulations to new arrivals.
• Requisitions, stores, and issues janitorial and housekeeping supplies.
• Conducts inventories of center security equipment.
• Provides information to visitors and answers telephone inquiries regarding operations of the community corrections center in accordance with rules and special instructions.
• Assigns and ensures completion of general housekeeping duties performed by reentrants, such as grounds maintenance, trash removal, washing, dusting, and polishing floors, furniture, and fixtures.
• Maintains a log on all activities, occurrences, events, and work performed during the shift and briefs relieving monitor.
• Performs related work as required.
